Your Good Home Handyman

A Handyman Defined

A handyman is a person capable of completing multiple tasks around the home
accurately and efficiently, whether it involves simple cleaning or maintenance, repairs or adjustments, diagnosing trouble areas, or upgrades and improvements to your home.

While some jobs are better left to professional contractors, many others are perfectly suited for a handyman. This is what I base my business on...taking care of the many needs of a homeowner, tasks that contractors are not interested in doing because they are not “big enough” jobs, yet are still important tasks that need to get done. Many people out there do not have the tools, time or ability to complete these tasks.

Not all handymen are the same. Skill levels vary as does quality of workmanship. Some handymen may possess exceptional carpentry skills, but may be unable to diagnose an inoperative garage door opener. Some may have remarkable painting skills but would shudder at the thought of cleaning out a clogged sink drain. Some may specialize in only small household repairs while some may be capable of completely remodeling a kitchen.

Essentially what I’m trying to say is that no one person knows how to do everything. The key is to know your limitations and to stay within them. I will not do something that I’m not 100% comfortable with.

I believe a good quality handyman should at the very least:

  • have a solid working knowledge of how things work around the house, and know how to repair them when they don’t work as they should.
  • be knowledgeable with routine maintenance, and know when to perform it.
  • have the ability to spot potential problems, and fix them before they become bigger problems.
  • understand how to use tools safely and correctly - knowing what tool works best for the job at hand.
  • know the difference between various lubricants, sealers, cleaners, glues, and all of the other chemical products used around the home.
  • be able to complete the job, whatever it is, with accuracy.

Be sure you feel comfortable with whomever is working on your home. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and make sure the handyman is up to the task.

I am happy to answer any questions as to my skill level and experience.
